About Old School Marine
Old School Marine is a family company based in Vancouver offering marine services such as towing, salvaging, crew changes, emergency vessel repair and water taxi. We are here to help all mariners, commercial or recreational.
Our passion for boats and the ocean has been running in our blood for generations. Mike Shannon's father was a shipwright and his grandfather and great grandfather were commercial fishermen. Before creating Old School Marine, Mike and his father Jim owned the Great Little Boatyard and, later, the Shannon Buoys Marina and Boatyard, a vessel repair and refit company located in the North Arm near the Oak Street bridge.
Today, our background in boat repairs helps us offer more than just towing or salvaging: we can also assist you with emergency small repairs and part changes. This could make the difference between leaving your vessel at a boatyard or sailing back home with it. Also, we have the skills to personally customize all of our marine assistance vessels to make them as reliable as possible. One last crucial thing that differentiates us from other marine service companies is that we live close or in the boat yard, which means we are the fastest to respond 24/7. We also have the largest local, working fleet which means often we have a boat already in the area of an emergency and can dispatch a boat quickly. Our boats are also equipped with transponders so our boats can be tracked online for added convenience and safety.
We are doing this job because we love helping other mariners and that's probably why we've become the go-to people in the local professional marine community of the West Coast and Gulf Islands. We have great collaborative relationships with the Canadian Coast Guard and Transport Canada. Ask anybody in the industry who has worked with us and they will recommend us for emergency assistance (towing, salvage, repair), crew changes and professional water taxi services. Tourists and local pleasure boaters that we have helped all highly recommend us to their friends as the people to call for help when close to the B.C. coast. We take pride in what we do and it shows.
